There is a project underway to index all 194,815 burials that took place in this cemetary from 1840 up to 1978. There has been a small number of burials since that time in family sites these are now included up to 1998.
This site will monitor the progress of this project. It will begin to give access to the information transcribed, and provide a look-up service for off line search.
The next section gives a list of the surnames than have been entered so far. It will be updated regularly as more data is entered.
This list gives only one entry for each surname. It also shows the number of times that each surnames occurs. This is the first line of attack. If you find a surname of interest you then request more information in the second section. Here you enter the Surname on a form and send it via the Internet to the database, the computer will do a search and return you a page with a summary for each burial that matches the surname requested. Currently it will give you a reference number to that burial the Name, date and Age (Age not all loaded yet).
If you have now found an entry that is a possible ancestor. You now have the ability to request a Research Activity to be done on that entry.
For this research there is a charge (this is to recover the direct cost of the microfilms of the registers and the operation of this site).
there are three routes you can take for this Research to be done.
For this research you will get the grave reference that that person is buried in along with a list of any other person in the same grave. Together with the graves location and the last address for each occupant. Except in the case of a common grave, then there will not be details on the other occupents.
The project has been divided into eight (8) sections for ease. The definition and status (as of 05 SEP 1999) of each section is as follows:-
